“I may be ancient, but I refuse to
put up with grabby hands.” Tizzy snatched her wrist away, and at the cost of
revealing herself as a witch, whispered a spell to illuminate the immediate
area. “Cosmos, it is dark in here, shed some light to make this person appear.”
One lightbulb directly above her
flickered to life.
A young man with scruffy hair and an
overgrown beard hovered in front of her. Confusion crossed his features as he
glanced up at the lights. He shook it off. “Come quick before the vampire
returns,” he whispered.
Tizzy took a step back. “I’m sorry,
dear. Why would I run off with you exactly?”
“We’re rescuing you.” The man
gestured to the far side of the community building where the librarian, Ms.
Hornfellow, stood waving at them frantically.
The rest of the light flickered to
life, illuminating the room. A collective murmur of happiness rippled through
the bingo occupants.
“We must hurry,” he said.
“Why do you think I need to be
rescued from Sidney? As far as vampires go, he’s one of the relatively harmless
ones. Although please don’t tell him I said so. He’s rather sensitive.”
He pulled a piece of paper from his
pocket and pressed it into her palm. “There are no harmless vampires.” Then he
scurried away toward Ms. Hornfellow.
The piece of paper had an address
scribbled in neat handwriting. Now what in the great goddesses could this be
about? That fella and the librarian couldn’t know that she and Sidney were
investigating the symbols. They’d have to be psychic for that. Hmm…
Sidney appeared beside her, his
chest puffed with pride. “I flipped the breakers.”
“Good thing you were here to save
the day,” she said, keeping her tone as flat as Grace’s pancakes.
He rubbed his hands together,
apparently unfazed by her sarcasm. “Are we ready to get our gossip game on?”
Despite what the scruffy man and the
librarian believed, no one in the room was in any danger from Sidney. And she’d
promised to help him with Patrick Henry first. Tizzy didn’t believe in
coincidences though, but couldn’t work out how exactly this would be connected.
Until then, she’d keep the strange interaction to herself.
“Let’s get this over with,” she
finally answered and when she went to place the piece of paper in her pocket,
it fell to the ground.
Sidney picked it up for her. He
glanced at the address. “What’s this?”
+++
Uh oh!
Should Tizzy…
A. Lie
and say one of the men at bingo was trying to get a date with her and gave her
his address. No need to distract Sidney from his mission
B. Tell Sidney the truth. After all, a
good investigative team is built off of trust.
C. Use
more magic! Make him forget the piece of paper even exists. I mean, come on.
Magic!! She’d tell him when the time is right.
